Why Not Just Burn My Documents?
Many homeowners consider burning old paperwork, but there are serious problems with this approach:
🚫 Often Illegal
Many areas are smoke control zones where burning paper is prohibited. Fines can exceed £300.
🔥 Fire Risk
Especially dangerous in dry weather. Paper fires can quickly get out of control.
☠️ Toxic Fumes
Modern inks and paper coatings release harmful chemicals when burned.
📄 Incomplete Destruction
Partially burned documents can still reveal sensitive information.
❌ No Proof
You have no certificate proving documents were destroyed – important for legal compliance.
🌍 Environmental Impact
Burning releases CO2. Our shredding service recycles 100% of paper.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to be home during collection?
No, you don’t need to be present. You can leave the sealed bags in a safe location such as your porch, garage, or garden shed, and we’ll collect them. Just let us know where they’ll be when you book collection.
What if I'm clearing a house after bereavement?
We understand this is a difficult time and offer a compassionate, professional service. We can discuss your specific requirements by phone and arrange flexible collection times. Many customers use our service during probate to ensure proper disposal of sensitive documents. We’re here to make this process as easy as possible for you.
Can I shred photos and personal letters?
Yes, absolutely. We shred all paper-based materials including photographs, personal correspondence, diaries, and notebooks. Everything is destroyed beyond recognition and recycled responsibly.
Do I need to remove staples, paperclips, or dividers?
No! There’s no need to remove any staples, paperclips, treasury tags, file dividers, or plastic wallets. Just bag everything as-is and we’ll handle it. This saves you hours of preparation time.
What is a Certificate of Destruction?
It’s an official document proving your paperwork was securely destroyed on a specific date. This is important for legal compliance (especially GDPR), insurance purposes, and peace of mind. We email your certificate within 48 hours of shredding.
What if I only fill one or two sacks?
That’s completely fine. You pay for the pack size (which includes collection), but you don’t need to fill all the sacks. Many customers order a 10-sack pack but only use 5-6 sacks. The collection fee is the same regardless.
How secure is the service?
Extremely secure. Bags are sealed with tamper-evident security tags. During transport, they remain sealed and secure. The shredding facility has CCTV coverage, secure storage, and controlled access. We’re licensed by the Environment Agency and have maintained a 100% security record since 2006.
What areas do you cover?
Yes, expired or cancelled passports and driving licenses can be included. They’ll be shredded along with your other documents. For current documents, please ensure they’re cancelled or expired first.
Can you dispose of old passports and driving licenses?
We serve all of East Sussex, West Sussex, Kent, Surrey, and parts of South London. Our main coverage areas include Hastings, Eastbourne, Brighton, Lewes, Tunbridge Wells, Maidstone, Guildford, and surrounding towns. If you’re unsure whether we cover your area, please call us.
What if documents get wet or damaged?
Not a problem – we can shred wet or damaged documents. Just ensure they’re securely bagged. If documents are very wet, you may want to let them dry slightly to prevent excessive weight, but we can handle all conditions.
I live in a flat - how does collection work?
We regularly collect from flats and apartments. We’ll arrange a specific collection time with you, and you can either meet us or leave the bags in a communal hallway (if permitted). We can also coordinate with building management if needed.
What happens if I need more sacks than I ordered?
Simply order another pack – there’s no penalty for ordering multiple packs separately. Alternatively, call us before your collection and we can arrange to bring extra sacks with the collection vehicle.
How quickly can you collect?
We usually collect within 2-5 working days of your call, depending on your location and our schedule. If you need urgent collection (for example, before a house move), please call us and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.
Do you shred on-site or take documents away?
Documents are securely transported to our facility in Mayfield, East Sussex, where they’re shredded the same day in our secure shredding facility. This is more cost-effective than mobile shredding and still maintains complete security. Your Certificate of Destruction proves the shredding was completed.
Is the service suitable for self-employed people?
Yes! Many self-employed individuals and freelancers use our domestic service for disposing of client records, invoices, and business documents past their retention period. The service is GDPR-compliant and more affordable than business-only shredding services.
Can I include magazines and newspapers?
Yes, we can shred magazines, newspapers, and glossy brochures. However, if you have large quantities of these (which aren’t confidential), consider recycling them normally to save your shredding capacity for sensitive documents.
What happens to the shredded paper?
100% of shredded paper is recycled. After shredding, the material is baled and sent to paper mills where it’s turned into new paper products. This is part of our commitment to environmental responsibility.
Do you offer discounts for large quantities?
Our 50-sack pack offers the best value per sack. If you need more than 50 sacks (for example, during a major estate clearance), please call us on 01435 408118 to discuss custom pricing.
Can I track my sack delivery?
Yes, all shred packs are sent by tracked delivery. You’ll receive a tracking number by email so you can see exactly when your pack will arrive.
Is VAT included in the prices?
Yes, all our domestic shredding prices include VAT. The price you see is the price you pay – no hidden charges.
